General Mills has issued a voluntary recall of several brands of flour due to a possible e. Coli contamination.
The company says it is collaborating with health officials to investigate a multi-state outbreak of E. coli 0121 which may be linked to Gold Medal, Wondra and Signature Kitchens flour.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found about half of those with the illness reported making something with flour before becoming ill and some reported using a General Mills flour.
It's important to point out that E. coli has not been found in any General Mills products or in the flour manufacturing facility, but the company says it is issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.
“As a leading provider of flour for 150 years, we felt it was important to not only recall the product and replace it for consumers if there was any doubt, but also to take this opportunity to remind our consumers how to safely handle flour,” Liz Nordlie, president of General Mills Baking division, said in a statement.
