The county's fire marshal said three compressors and one structure caught fire at the Targa Gas Plant on the 300 block of County Road 1745 in Chico at about 2:15 a.m.

"The plant, which is not involved in the fire, was immediately shut down per our emergency procedures and all employees were safely evacuated," a statement issued by Targa officials read. "There were no injuries and everyone associated with the facility is accounted for."

Authorities said they "temporarily relocated" residents of 10 to 15 homes within about 1.5 miles of the plant to motels. As of 8:30 a.m., firefighters let the residents return to their homes.

Firefighters said they decided to let the fire burn out on its own. The plant and County Road 1745 remained closed in the meantime.

Targa officials said they're investigating the cause of the fire.
