A gas leak in western Denton County closed the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and Smith Road near Krum for a short time Monday morning.

A gas leak in western Denton County closed the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and Smith Road near Krum for a short time Monday morning.

A gas leak in western Denton County closed the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and Smith Road near Krum for a short time Monday morning.

According to Jamie Moore, Denton County Emergency Services, a 6-inch gas line was cut by construction crews working on new lanes of the highway.

The gas line has been turned off.

Ten homes in the immediate area were evacuated and those within one mile of the break have been asked to shelter in place until 11 a.m.

The road reopened to traffic at about 10:30 a.m.
