Gas Leak Shuts Down Fort Worth Streets

A gas leak caused by a car crash closed Country Club Lane near Bridge Street in Fort Worth for four hours Thursday morning.

A car coming out of an apartment complex hit a light pole, then spun around, hitting a gas line, causing the leak, according to Tim Hardeman, public information officer with the Fort Worth Fire Department.

The car landed on the gas line, causing a challenge for Atmos crews who were trying to shut off the line.

A nearby health care facility was monitored by fire crews with hand-held gas monitors to make sure no evacuations were necessary there. No other evacuations were ordered.

The car was removed and the gas line shut off around 10 a.m. Streets were reopened shortly thereafter.

Crews remained on the scene to repair the line and the fallen light pole.

No one was injured, Hardeman said.
