Garland Storage Facility Damaged by Tornado Will Be Demolished

GT Storage and Marina To Reopen in July

When the EF4 tornado barreled through Garland, it also destroyed a long time storage facility located near Interstate 30 and the President George Bush Turnpike.

GT Storage and Marina lost 320 units.

"Once everything is cleared off, we will rebuild," said Dennis Aldridge, GT Storage and Marina General Manager.

Sunday marked the final deadline for renters to collect their belongings.

"Some of this stuff maybe in Lake Ray Hubbard or in Rowlett," said Mark Payne. "It's extremely labor intensive. It's hard to find anything that's not damaged."

For 12 years, Payne rented three units. He spent the last three days sorting through storage items trapped beneath the debris.

"I'm just going to county my losses. I think it's God telling me to quit pack ratting stuff," Payne said.
GT Storage and Marina will reopen in July.
