Garland Schools Bookkeeper Gets Prison For Theft

A bookkeeper who worked 22 years for a Dallas-area school district must serve 10 months in prison for embezzlement and theft.

The U.S. Attorney's Office on Monday announced the sentence for Dolores Arriola Espino of Garland.

Espino, in court documents, acknowledged stealing more than $84,000 from the Garland Independent School District. The time frame was May 22, 2006, through July 2007.

Espino, who was sentenced Friday, also must pay more than $92,100 in restitution.

Investigators say Espino used an online system to create a fictitious vendor and submit fraudulent invoices. The funds ended up in her personal bank account.

She was fired in 2007.
