Garland Police Arrest Man After Chase, Wreck

Police said they arrested a motorcycle driver who led Garland officers on a brief chase early Friday morning.

Garland police said an officer tried to stop the motorcycle driver, 39-year-old Charles Cottrill, for a traffic violation just after 1 a.m. near Jupiter Road and Interstate 635. Cottrill fled west on 635 to U.S. 75 and turned south before exiting onto Mockingbird Lane, followed by police.

Cottrill wrecked near the Southern Methodist University campus and fled on foot, according to Garland Police Department spokesman Joe Harn. Officers quickly caught him and took him into custody.

Police said Cottrill was charged with evading arrest, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

No injuries were reported.
