Garland Business Owners Charged With Peddling Illegal Drug K2

A man and woman in Garland are facing felony drug charges after police say they were in possession of $250,000 in K2.

According to the Garland Police Department, Bok Shin and Myung Shin, of MK Beauty Supply and Wayne's Convenience Store, were arrested for delivery and possession of a dangerous synthetic drug.

Police said narcotics investigators said Bok and Myung were selling K2 out of their businesses on the 600 block of Dairy Road for more than two years.

When Bok and Myung were taken into custody, drug paraphernalia was also found that police said could be used for ingesting the synthetic drug as well as other "street-level drugs."

Bok Shin has been charged with delivery of synthetic cannabinoids and possession with intent to deliver synthetic cannabinoids and is being held on $25,000 for each charge. Myung is being charged with possession with intent to deliver synthetic cannabinoids and is being held on $25,000 bond.

About K2

  • K2, or "spice," is a synthetic cannabinoid that mimics the effects of marijuana, but the manufactured version can be far more potent -- even deadly.
  • It is a mixture of herbs and spices that is typically sprayed with a synthetic compound chemically similar to THC, the psychoactive ingredients in marijuana, according to the DEA.
  • It is commonly purchased in head shops, tobacco shops and over the Internet.
  • It is often marketed as incense or "fake weed."
  • It is typically sold in small, silvery plastic bags of dried leaves and marketed as incense that can be smoked. It is said to resemble potpourri.
  • All 50 states have banned cannabinoids by outlawing specific compounds since 2011. A federal law in 2012 added certain cannabinoids to the U.S. controlled substances list.
