Garage Sale Permits May Soon be History in Fort Worth

City leaders in Fort Worth are considering doing away with garage sale permits.

Under the current city ordinance, anyone who holds a garage sale is required to get a permit from the city first. They are free, and you can apply for them online.

However, city leaders think the decades old rule may be placing an unnecessary burden on city staff and residents by requiring them in the first place.

"There's no reason to have to permit when you're going to do one a year or maybe two a year. It's more expense for our citizens, it means a trip downtown or a trip online. It's more regulations for code compliance," said Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price.

Right now, city leaders are considering a one-year trial period of not requiring the permits. They are expected to take more formal action on the matter next month.
