At least four people were arrested over the Memorial Day weekend on Eagle Mountain Lake on alcohol-related offenses including BWI -- boating while intoxicated.

Game wardens said intoxicated boaters are the one thing they're always on the lookout for.

But warden Clint Borchardt said it appears boaters have gotten the message that being drunk on the water will not be tolerated.

"We've really been cracking down on that, and people are realizing that we are out here," he said.

And boaters appear to be taking precautions.

"We come across a lot more boats that actually have a designated driver in the boat," Borchardt said.

The penalties for a BWI are just as stiff as a DWI. People are arrested, they lose their license, and they pay hefty fines.

Borchardt said there were no reported drownings on Eagle Mountain as of late Monday afternoon.
