Galveston Hotel Security Guard Dies of Gunshot Wounds

Galveston police say a security guard shot a week ago while walking around the parking lot of a beachfront resort hotel has died of his injuries.

Houston television station KTRK says 23-year-old Philip Mollis spotted at least three men involved in what authorities said was suspicious activity outside the San Luis Resort. Investigators say when he approached them, they opened fire.

Police Capt. Joshua Schirard says the security guards at the hotel wear uniforms that look similar to ones worn by Galveston police.

A 21-year-old man found hiding near the shooting scene April 9 is in custody on an unrelated charge. He's been identified as a member of a Houston street gang.

Authorities are looking for the two others.
