Galveston-Area Ship Traffic Restricted After Barge Sinks

The Coast Guard says a barge being towed to a scrapyard has sunk in Southeast Texas in an accident that's prompted some ship traffic restrictions.

Officials say the barge sank Tuesday morning east of the Galveston Causeway railroad bridge. Nobody was hurt.

A Coast Guard statement says traffic was being restricted on nearby areas of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Officials were only allowing one-way and single-wide barges from mile marker 356 to mile marker 357.

A salvage company has been hired to remove the sunken barge.
