Funeral Arrangements for DART Officer Brent Thompson

The first Dallas Area Rapid Transit police officer killed in the line of duty will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

Officer Brent Thompson, 43, was among the 5 officers gunned down in downtown Dallas last Thursday.

A visitation for Thompson will be held Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana.

There will be a memorial service at Potter's House Church in Dallas on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a private burial service in Corsicana.

Thompson served with DART authority for seven years. It was there where he met another transit officer, whom he married just two weeks before he was killed.

Thompson had six grown children from a previous marriage and recently welcomed his third grandchild, according to friend, Tara Thornton.

"He loved being a police officer," Thornton said. "He instantly knew that's what he wanted to do. He knew he wanted to save lives and protect people."

Before he joined DART, Thompson worked for private military contractor DynCorp International.

According to his LinkedIn page, he also served as an international police liaison officer, helping teach and mentor Iraqi police.
