Fuel City to Open This Week in Haltom City

Popular gas station, taqueria is one of several big developments in the works

Fuel City, a 24-hour convenience store and taquería complete with barnyard animals out back, will soon open a new location just outside of downtown Fort Worth.

The store's third location is slated to open this week off Texas 121 at Haltom Road in Haltom City, within sight of the Fort Worth skyline.

Company officials said they plan to open a fourth Fuel City on Interstate 35W in Saginaw. The other two locations are on Riverfront Boulevard in the shadow of the Downtown Dallas Mixmaster and Town East Boulevard along Interstate 30 in Mesquite.

Haltom City assistant city manager Rex Phelps said city leaders are excited for the traffic that a “destination gas station” can bring and that there are other areas of town that are primed for development.

For instance, there are dozens of acres that front either side Loop 820 at Haltom Road, according to Phelps, that are ready for construction because the city has spent years and millions of dollars installing utilities and access roads in an effort to lure developers.

“And for years, of course, [the highway] was under construction. And now that that’s about complete, we’re really in a, just the right time to really start looking at development in that area,” he said.

In addition, the intersection of Belknap Street and U.S. 377 has also been realigned to allow for streetscape improvements — landscaping, trees, on-street parking, etc. — in an area that was once part of the historic “Pony Express” route, according to Phelps.
