Frisco’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony is being rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. due to possible heavy rain on Saturday.
The new time isn’t taking away the annual light show, which will feature 175,000 lights making it “one of the largest choreographed light and music shows in North Texas,” according to the City of Frisco.
“Residents and visitors are already enjoying the choreographed light show in Frisco Square,” said Rick Wieland, the director of Parks and Recreation. “This way, our residents can enjoy our traditional tree lighting without the rain.”
Even though the ceremony itself is being held Thursday, the city is still hosting its original Merry Main Street on Saturday from 5-8 p.m.—but it’s moving indoors.
The Merry Main Street event will be be moving inside City Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will still be making an appearance and are offering free photos and cookies.
A popular part of the festivities on Saturday is the Kids Holiday Store. The store offers gifts all under $5 as a way to give kids ages three to 12 a chance to buy their mom or dad a wrapped present.
“Merry Main Street has been a holiday staple in Frisco for 26 years,” said Wieland. “We’re looking forward to continuing that tradition, despite scaling it down a bit due to the very wet forecast.”
