Frisco Family Restaurant Hosts Free Thanksgiving

The owners of Frisco’s Fifth Street Patio Café started a new tradition this Thanksgiving.

The owners of Frisco’s 5th Street Patio Café started a new tradition this Thanksgiving.

“Instead of just sitting around on Thanksgiving and stuffing our faces and eating till we’re in a food coma, we thought we’re going to do something good!” said Kristy McDonald.

“We know there are people in need, so we decided this year we’re going to try and reach them.”

McDonald, her husband and business partner decided to open for a few hours on Thursday to serve a free holiday meal to whomever came through their doors.

Instead of asking their employees to work, they made it a family affair – staffed by volunteers, their children, in-laws and friends. “We have our whole family,” McDonald said. “I have my 86 year old father, my teenagers, my 20 year old son.”

Dozens of people showed up for the food and fellowship, more than the McDonalds expected, given that it was their first year. Leftovers were donated to area first responders.

The café’s owners plan on making the event a tradition, adding that next year, they may offer people in need transportation to reach them in Frisco.
