The Grand Prairie shelter will stay open late Friday and Saturday to offer free adoptions to qualified families.

If you're in the market to adopt a dog or cat, this weekend you may want to visit the Grand Prairie Animal Shelter.

The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is staying open late Friday and Saturday night to send pets to good homes, for free.

If you're approved to adopt, your new best friend will come with a microchip and some of the required shots.

The shelter said there are a lot of great pets available for adoption that need new families.  Up to two pets can be adopted per family and the free offer is only available for new adoptions.

The shelter is located at 2222 W. Warrior Trail and will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.  They will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.
