Four Injured in Crash Along State Highway 183

An early-morning crash in Irving Monday sent four people to the hospital and closed down a portion of the roadway while emergency crews extracted the driver.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. on state Highway 183 near Loop 12 in Irving. Police investigators said the driver likely lost control of the vehicle before it crashed into a guardrail.

Four men were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two were able to walk away from the scene, but the two others, including the driver, had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency crews.

It took crews more than an hour to get the driver out of the car. During rescue operations, the driver was put on an IV.

The conditions of the injured men were not revealed as of 6 a.m.

Investigators told NBC 5's Josh Ault they suspect alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the crash.

SH 183 had portions of both sides of the roadway shut down as of 6:30 a.m., with traffic reporters encouraging drivers to use state Highway 356 as an alternate route.
