Fort Worth Teen Drowns Trying to Retrieve Dove

A 14-year-old North Texas boy drowned in a stock pond while trying to retrieve a dove that was shot during a hunting trip.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Joseph Lopez of Fort Worth Monday.

Lt. Tim Jones said the boy was part of group hunting in a rural area near the 2900 block of County Road 615 in Alvarado Sunday.

Jones said the boy entered the pond to recover a dove but never resurfaced. Emergency personnel who responded to a report of a possible drowning used a boat to search for the teen. Divers from the Cleburne Fire Department recovered the body at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Further details weren't immediately available.
