Fort Worth Police Fatally Shoot Man Caught Stabbing Victim

Fort Worth police officers fatally shot a man they say they caught stabbing a woman in an apartment.

The incident happened around 7:20 a.m. Sunday at The Hills Apartments near Camp Bowie and Loop 820 in West Fort Worth.

Police say they rushed to the scene after getting a 9-1-1 call.

“The details of the call were that a male was threatening to throw a female off a balcony,” said Fort Worth Police Sergeant Kelly Peel.

When officers got to the apartment they heard a woman screaming for help.  Police say they forced their way in and saw a man stabbing her.

“They opened fire on the adult male,” said Sgt. Peel.

The man died.  Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital with very serious injuries. Her condition is unknown.

Police have not released any information on the identities or relationship of the man and woman, nor have they released the names of the officers involved in the fatal shooting. Those officers have been placed on administrative leave, as is routine in cases involving officers discharging their weapons.

Neighbor Debra Applewhite recognized the coming out on the stretcher and said she couldn’t believe what he was accused of.

“I thought he was a very nice man,” said Applewhite.  “He’d been in the parking lot sometime or walking to the store and say, ‘hi how are you today?’”

Police at the scene weren’t sure of the relationship between the couple.  Applewhite says she saw both taken out on stretchers and didn’t recognize the woman.

“I can’t believe this happened because I walked my dog right by there this morning and I didn’t hear anything,” said Applewhite.
