Fort Worth, Haltom City Police Search for Carjacking Suspect

Fort Worth police continue to search for a man who they say carjacked a minivan Monday afternoon in an effort to elude officers who were in pursuit.

Fidel Martinez, 36, had been wanted for a parole violation in relation to auto theft, evading arrest and resisting arrest, police said. Officers attempted to stop Martinez, but he drove away, eventually stopping in the Fossil Creek neighborhood, just north of Haltom High School.[[300710801,L]]

Martinez and a passenger got out of their vehicle and ran. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, was arrested and questioned, police said.

But Martinez continued on foot in the neighborhood.

"He said, 'Can I use your phone?' I said, 'Nope, you can't use my phone,'" said neighbor Vern Bult.

Martinez ran through back yards and over fences, and he even tried to get inside some homes.

"He walked down there, sneaking between the houses, trying to act like he was hiding. I guess he was," Bult said.

Fort Worth police say they are searching for a man who carjacked a minivan in an effort to elude officers who were in pursuit Monday afternoon.

On Dillon Circle, police said, Martinez saw his chance. He spotted Allison Cornell in her driveway and went for her keys.

"I was just cleaning out my car, coming in and out of the house," Cornell said. "This guy came around the front of the vehicle and jumped at me and said, 'Give me your keys! Give me your keys!' And he started struggling with me for them and finally took them from me and got in the car and drove off."

Police said the stolen minivan is a silver Honda Odyssey with Texas license plate CPG 5371.

Police said Martinez is considered dangerous, and anyone who sees him should call 911.
