Fort Worth Neighborhood Remembers Dog

A memorial service has been held for a dog named Beau Blue who had no owner but became a fixture in one Fort Worth neighborhood.

The Star-Telegram reports a group of residents, police officers and even the veterinarian who cared for him gathered Wednesday at an outdoor chapel.

Blue died June 26 of heart and kidney failure. No one knows when he was born.

The pointer-mix was a fixture in the neighborhood off of South Main Street consisting of vacant lots, renovated buildings and several small businesses.

Marcus Newton, who moved in to the neighborhood about a year ago, says Blue would stay in his garage on cold nights and come by almost every day.

Fort Worth police officer G.G. Hempstead says Blue "brought joy to everybody."
