Fort Worth Food Bank Needs Turkeys for Thanksgiving

A North Texas food bank is in desperate need of turkeys as the demand for the bird increases in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

The line for the Community Food Bank in Fort Worth wrapped around the block Monday, with the nonprofit and its volunteers handing out more than 1,000 turkeys and packages of canned goods to people who have jobs but cannot afford any unexpected expenses in their family budgets.

"It doesn't make any difference what your socioeconomic status is; everybody wants a traditional Thanksgiving dinner," said Regena Taylor, executive director of Community Food Bank.

There were approximately 1,000 turkeys in the organization's large freezer Monday morning, but by day's end - after 1,150 people showed up - Taylor was asking for more community support in the form of donated turkeys.

By late Monday, there were an estimated 50 frozen turkeys. The turkeys were brought in after multiple media reports circulated about nonprofit's need for more birds.

The nonprofit expects another crowd of approximately 1,000 people on Tuesday.

If you would like to donate a turkey to Community Food Bank, the organization is located at 3000 Galvez Avenue in Fort Worth.
