Fort Worth Firefighter Accused of Punching Man During TCU Spring Football Game

A Fort Worth firefighter is accused of punching a 78-year-old man in the face during an argument at a Texas Christian University spring football game last week.

The school's police arrested 42-year-old Shea O'Neill Tuesday on a warrant, accusing him of injury to the elderly after he gave a statement to police about the incident.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram says he was released from the Mansfield Jail on Wednesday morning on a $100,000 bail.

Fire Lt. Gregg Russell says O'Neill  has been placed on detached duty. Russell says an administrative investigation is being conducted by the Fort Worth Fire Department's Office of Professional Standards.

Russell tells NBC 5 O'Neill has been with the fire department since 2002.

The firefighter declined to comment to the newspaper and referred questions to his attorney.

O'Neill has been in the news before. In 2013, he was charged with murder in Arkansas for allegedly fatally stabbing a 23-year-old man in the neck. The charge was dismissed after investigators determined O'Neill acted in self-defense.

NBC 5 researchers found a previous conviction, in 1993, for driving while intoxicated.
