Fort Hood to Change Commanders Aug. 8

    The commanding general of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss will become the new commander of Fort Hood and III Corps next month.

    Maj. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland has been promoted to lieutenant general and will succeed Lt. Gen. Mark Milley as the top commander at the Central Texas Army post on Aug. 8.

    Milley has been promoted to general and will become the commanding general of the U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.

    Milley has commanded II Corps and Fort Hood since December 2012.
