Fort Hood Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

Fort Hood officials say a soldier stationed at the Central Texas post has died of injuries suffered in a noncombat-related incident in Afghanistan.

Officials said in a statement Monday that Sgt. Christopher Waugh Mulalley of Eureka, California, died following the incident Friday in Gardez, south of Kabul in eastern Afghanistan. No other information on the circumstances of his death was available.

The 26-year-old Mulalley entered active-duty service in 2006 as an infantryman. He's been assigned since last year to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.

He had been deployed twice before to the region, and had begun his latest deployment in June.

His award and decorations include three Army commendation medals.

The investigation into his death continues.
