Former Cop Roy Oliver Begins 15-Year Prison Sentence for Murdering Jordan Edwards

A jury found Oliver guilty of murder Aug. 28 and sentenced him the next day

Former Balch Springs police Officer Roy Oliver has been transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to begin his 15-year prison sentence for murdering 15-year-old Jordan Edwards last year.

Oliver, 38, who had remained in the Dallas County Jail since his trial ended in late August, was handed over to state authorities early Monday, the Dallas County Sheriff's Department said.

Oliver was taken to the James "Jay" H. Bird Unit in Huntsville. When inmates arrive there, they are photographed, fingerprinted, interviewed and given a physical and mental health screening. All prisoners are evaluated based on their safety risks.
