Former Pasadena Police Officer Not Guilty for Shooting Man

A Harris County jury has found a former Pasadena police officer not guilty for shooting a 20-year-old man in the face during a traffic stop.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Michael T. Martin was found not guilty Monday. He had faced a maximum of a year in jail if convicted of the class A misdemeanor of official oppression.

Martin admitted shooting the man after pulling him over for a DWI stop in 2011. The former officer told jurors he could not see the man's left arm and thought he was reaching for a weapon when he heard a clanking through the driver's door.

Video shown to the jury captured the man being pulled over and seconds later fleeing the scene as gunshots ring out, apparently after he was shot.
