Former NFL RB Charged in Duncanville Robbery, Shooting

Former NFL running back Darren Lewis is out on bond after police said he shot a store clerk during a robbery early Tuesday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., police said a man walked into a 7-Eleven store near U.S. 67 and Cockrell Hill Road and demanded money.  When the clerk refused, the man shot the clerk in the thigh.

The clerk was transported to Methodist Hospital in Dallas with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said their investigation led them to 44-year-old Darren Glen Lewis, a one-time standout at Dallas Carter who went to college at Texas A&M before spending the 1991-1993 seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Lewis was arrested and charged with enhanced theft warrant, evading arrest or detention and aggravated robbery from Cedar Hill Police Department. Lewis was also expected to be charged with aggravated robbery out of Duncanville. Police said other charges may be pending for other offenses out of other cities.

Lewis posted bond and is out of jail awaiting trial.
