A group of food trucks and volunteers came together to serve a combined 2,200 meals this Christmas in Dallas.
It all began when Don Kaye was delivering meals on Thanksgiving 2013 near Fair Park but soon ran out before he could feed everyone.
Determined to not let the same thing happen weeks later at Christmas, Kaye worked with Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and arranged to have three food trucks serve hundreds of meals.
“Last year we started this event. We served 1,100 people and the people really appreciated this,” said Kaye.
This year, Kaye wanted to make the event even bigger, so he ordered five food trucks and began passing out fliers at Thanksgiving, telling people the trucks would be making several stops.
All in all, some 2,200 meals were served Thursday thanks to the help of volunteers from the church as well as Temple Anshai Torah.
“I don’t mind giving five of them. If they want them, if they want meals for a week, I would make it happen. This is the coolest thing that any of the food trucks in Dallas could ever do, and we are grateful for it,” said Audra Denny, who owns the food truck Pompeii.
