Flower Mound is once again looking at a moratorium on new natural gas operations on the Barnett Shale.

About 6,000 signatures were on a petition turned in to Flower Mound officials Wednesday seeking a six-month halt to new activity related to gas drilling and transport.
That's enough signatures to either force adoption of the ban or an election. Town officials say they could be verifying signatures into the weekend.
There's been growing concern in recent months about the environmental effects of drilling on the Barnett Shale, a massive, gas-rich underground rock formation beneath about 20 counties.
In December, Flower Mound's town council rejected a drilling moratorium driven by pollution fears.
