Flower Mound River Walk Surges Forward

A project many thought was out of the question just a few years ago may soon be a center piece for Flower Mound.

The River Walk at Central Park has been under construction since last August and is now starting to take shape along Farm-to-Market Road 2499.

The 158-acre development has planned spots for apartments, villa homes, businesses and the town's first-ever hotel.

Project managers with Centurion American said they are now working on creating the river that will run through the space as well as the parks and streets so some of those buildings can start to take form and hopefully be ready in 2015.

The town council has already announced several restaurants to go in River Walk, and representative Molly Fox said they plan to announce more at the Dec. 15 council meeting as well as the company that will run the hotel.

River Walk was in the planning phases for years and almost became a reality in the late 2000s, but the former developer pulled out of the project during the recession, leaving it dead in the eyes of many residents.

It wasn’t until last year that Centurion American came on board and broke ground finally.

"We've never really had that central place," said Town Council member Bryan Webb in April 2013. “River Walk is to be that."

Since construction began, the medical district, including Texas Health Presbyterian, has taken form, and so has the market district on the south end, highlighted by Market Street grocery, which opened late last year.
