Flooding from Construction Site Damages Richardson Home

A Richardson family is cleaning up their home that flooded during Friday’s storms.

Heavy rain turned the road in front of their home into a river.

The Croalls moved into the home in December. It’s located in a neighborhood called Savoy Landing, near Waterview Drive and Campbell Road.

Several inches of water came rushing through their doors and walls leaving their first floor coated with mud.

Cheryl Croall, wife and mother of two small children, said she saw the water when she walked in her door Friday afternoon.

"It just kept coming and coming. There’s nothing I could do I couldn't stop it,” she said.

The family spent the day cleaning it up.

The water overflowed from a housing development being built next door.

The developer, Centurion American Development, is preparing the land for construction. Executive Vice President Jack Dawson told NBC 5 there are protections in place to prevent flooding, but the rain he said was so strong, it overflowed.

Dawson said the company will take full responsibility for what happened and pay for any damage.

“This was our dream home that we built and now it’s in shambles. It’s a disaster. It’s uninhabitable,” Croall said

A representative for David Weekley Homes, the company that developed the Croall’s neighborhood, began looking into the situation Friday night.

In a statement the representative said in part;

“After conversations with David Weekley Homes representatives, the developer of the adjoining property has agreed to accept responsibility for the flooding and pay for all property damage experienced by David Weekley homeowners… David Weekley Homes appreciates the cooperation of the adjoining developer and the patience of our homeowners dealing with the damage to their homes.”
