Flood Waters Hinder Travel in Denton County

Folks in a Corinth community are struggling to get in and out of their neighborhood after the recent rain and release of a large volume of water inundated a heavily traveled road.

The 200 block of South Shady Shores Road is about two feet under water. The road near Lewisville Lake is impassable as a result of rain and water released from area lakes.

The result is adding time to commutes for many folks who live nearby and say they have to travel in and out the same way, meaning funneling through the same overwhelmed intersection.

The road has been closed since Monday at 10 a.m., according to Corinth police.

"So we only have one way out our neighborhood now, and that's going north and I work in Carrollton so I'm traveling three miles north to turn around and go back three miles to get back on the highway. And I'm trying to beat out everybody that's trying to get out at the same time," said resident Darrin Towers.

In fact, a nearby traffic light was adjusted to help cycle folks through the intersection faster.

Corinth police say the last time the roads in this part of Denton County were flooded this badly was in 2007.
