Medical Emergency Diverts Dallas to Sydney Flight

A Qantas flight from Dallas to Sydney was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport after a passenger had a medical emergency.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles said the Airbus 380 landed in Los Angeles shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday.

She said the Fire Department transported the sick passenger to a hospital for treatment. The nature of the illness was not disclosed. The remaining 180 passengers on Flight QF8 were put up by the airline in local hotels.

The flight is scheduled to depart again for Australia at 9:05 p.m.

Qantas began flying the A380 between Dallas and Sydney in September.  The 8,600-mile route is the longest flight currently being flown by commerical carriers.
