First Baptist Carrollton Employee Spends $279,000 With Church Funds

A woman who worked for a Carrollton Church turned herself in to police for stealing money from church funds

A former employee at a Carrollton church has been charged with theft after using more than $279,000 worth of church funds for her personal purchases.

Jill Martin, a former bookkeeper at First Baptist Church of Carrollton, turned herself in to Carrollton police on Aug. 24. She was transferred to the Dallas County Jail the next day.

Martin is charged with taking out business credit cards in her own name without the authorization of the church and buying things for herself over the course of five years.

The case has been under investigation since February, when leaders at the church reported some suspicious financial activity to police.

Martin worked as a bookkeeper from 2007 to 2016. She was released on bond from the Dallas County Jail last week.
