First 2015 Murder in North Richland Hills

North Richland Hills police reported the first murder in that city this year on Wednesday.

Residents were alarmed by squad cars and crime scene tape at the Waterford on the Green Apartments in the 6200 block of Glenview Drive.

“It’s always quiet here,” said resident Will Henault. “There’s an officer that lives on property and this is a good apartment complex. They care about their residents.”

Investigator Keith Bauman with North Richland Hills police said officers responded to two calls from different people at about 2 a.m. for a welfare check at an apartment in the complex.

“They found no sign of forced entry. They looked around. They checked the windows. Everything was secure around the back of the house but when they checked the front door, the front door was unlocked,” Bauman said.

Officer entered the apartment and found the victim dead inside.

Bauman declined to reveal the victim’s gender, cause of death or motive for the murder.

“Certain information on this case is only known by the individuals involved,” he said. “Releasing that information could greatly jeopardize the integrity of this case.”

Bauman said detective do have many leads they are following.

“We believe that this was not a random act of violence,” Bauman said. “We believe the community at large is safe.”

Residents were still concerned about the homicide with no arrest made Wednesday.

“It was very surprising. I would have to say it’s the first time I’ve seen this many police officers in our neighborhood,” said resident Maria Conyers. “We’ve lived here going on three years now and this is the first indication of anything serious like this.”

Bauman said detectives have spoken with neighbors, but asked anyone with information about the case to contact North Richland Hills police.
