Fireworks Stand Destroyed by Tornado Reopens in Collin County

It's been six months since a tornado tore through the small Collin County town of Copeville.

In many ways it is as though time in the single-stop light town has stood still.

Several homes remain in shambles. Businesses are reduced to rubble, and a makeshift relief center serve as daily reminders of how much life changed when a tornado hit five days before the new year.

It's the same day Cody Wisdom opened USA Fireworks along Highway 78 in Copeville.

He says he left his business 15 minutes before the tornado destroyed it.

"I was pretty distraught. I'd been in business probably 13, 14 years and I had just opened that day," Wisdom said.

Several other businesses – including a convenience store, salon and feed store – were also destroyed.

Wisdom is the first and only store owner to rebuild so far.

His fireworks stand reopened over the weekend.

"I'm hoping it'll stimulate some other businesses here in Copeville to rebuild," he said.
