Firefighters Rescue Dog Whose Throat Was Slashed

A pit bull whose neck was slashed by an arsonist this week is expected to make a full recovery.

The group of Dallas firefighters who saved her gave her the nickname Khalessi, after the Game of Thrones character.

Firefighters were responding to an arson fire at a home on Clearwood Drive, near Camp Wisdom Blvd and Interstate 35, early Wednesday morning.

Witnesses saw the arsonist spreading gasoline around the property.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the badly injured dog came up to them and laid down at their feet. Her throat had been freshly cut.

Firefighters rushed the pit bull to the vet where she had three hours of emergency surgery.

"We all felt that since she was such a sweet dog she needed to be saved and get the best treatment as possible," said Dallas firefighter Joseph Nguyen. "I was heartbroken, I’ve never seen something like that before."

No one has been arrested yet for setting the fire and injuring the dog. Police are still investigating.

"It was pretty upsetting that people would do something like that to a dog," Nguyen said.

Khaleesi is now being cared for by DFW Rescue Me, a non-profit animal organization in Denton.
