Vacant Northwest Highway Restaurant To Be Torn Down After Fire, Collapse

A vacant restaurant along Northwest Highway will be torn down after much of it collapsed during a fire Monday morning.

The fire broke out on the roof of the former La Jaivita Mexican Seafood restaurant sometime before 11 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had advanced to such a point that they had to take up a defensive position, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.

The roof ended up collapsing, preventing firefighters from entering the building.

The fire was tapped out before noon. With much of it destroyed by fire, the vacant building is set to be demolished.

The cause of the fire is not known and no injuries were reported.
