Felony Suspect Fatally Shoots Self After Garland Chase

Carjacking caught on video

A man fleeing U.S. marshals fatally shot himself after carjacking a vehicle in Garland on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Garland police spokesman Officer Joe Harn said the marshals were serving outstanding felony warrants on Derrin Bernard Adams.

Adams, 32, eluded marshals when they tried to arrest him in the area of Broadway Boulevard and Interstate 30. He crajacked a vehicle and fled in the stolen car, Harn said.

A Garland police officer spotted the stolen car and pursued Adams on Interstate 30. Minutes later, he crashed in the parking lot of a Valero gas station in the 5700 block of Lake Hubbard Parkway.

Adams left the vehicle with a gun in his hand and ran to a nearby apartment complex, police said. Two Garland officers confronted him in the complex's commons area, where he shot and killed himself, Harn said.

No one else was injured during the shooting.
