Federal Agent Pleads in Texas Immigration Case

A U.S. Border Patrol agent whose girlfriend allegedly used fraudulent work documents has pleaded guilty to harboring immigrants who were in the country illegally.

The San Antonio Express-News reported that 35-year-old Roberto Rodriguez took the plea deal with prosecutors on Monday.

Other agents were conducting surveillance on a Laredo home in July 2013 when they saw Rodriguez drive up in a Border Patrol vehicle. Authorities said he paid his girlfriend's bills and rent at the home where she lived with five other immigrants who were in the country illegally.

Agents detained the immigrants this summer and four returned to Mexico voluntarily and two were prosecuted for illegal re-entry.

Rodriguez faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced.
