Fatal Shooting at Child Care Center in McKinney

Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a child center in McKinney Thursday evening.

The shooting happened at about 5:45 p.m. at Discovery Learning Center located in the 1800 block of W. White Ave.

The McKinney Police Departments reports that a woman was found shot to death in the parking lot of the child care center.

The woman's estranged husband was found dead with gunshot wounds soon after in the 2700 block of Frontier Lane in McKinney. His gunshot wounds are believed to be self-inflicted, according to police.

The identities of the man and woman have not been released.

No one else was injured.

The shooting happened as parents were showing up to pick up their children, witnesses said.

"They were running down the street, this street was all full with cars and obviously they were going to pick up their children and freaking out, like you know upset, running," said Dawn Posner who lives across the street from the day care.

The female victim was found shot to death inside of her vehicle, according to officer Sabrina Boston of the McKinney Police Department.

Police would not say who else may have witnessed the shooting, but multiple people familiar with the victim said that two of her children were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

"I do know the children are not injured.  I'm not sure of their exact location at the time of the shooting," Boston told NBC DFW.

A records check of who witnesses said the female victim is show that she and her husband are going through a divorce.

The McKinney Police Department continues to investigate the shooting.
