Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Cowboys Stadium

Several cars strike, kill woman along Collins Street

Arlington police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run near Cowboys Stadium.

According to police, at about 6:40 a.m. a woman was hit along the northbound lanes of North Collins Street at East Rogers Street/Cowboys Way.

Police said multiple drivers hit the woman and at least one driver left the scene without stopping to render aid.  Arlington police said Wednesday afternoon that some of the drivers that hit the woman did stop after the crash.

"It's possible that multiple vehicles struck the victim once she was already in the roadway, so we're following up to determine and locate those vehicles as well to see if there's anyone who has any information that can help us in our investigation," said APD traffic investigator Dave Szatkowski.

The woman's body was found about 50 feet from the closest intersection. Since she is believed to have been hit by several vehicles, police said it is not clear whether she was initially hit while using a crosswalk or while illegally crossing the street.

Investigators are looking into all possibilities.

"Weather could have definitely been a factor in this," added officer Szatkowski. "It's the first rain we've had in quite some time, that makes the streets more slippery. The darkened conditions - there's only lights on one side of the street, so that may have played a factor in it."

The victim has identified but her name has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators closed Collins Street for several hours during the initial investigation.  It was reopened to traffic at about 10:15 a.m.
