A veteran West Texas police officer has died after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle while helping escort a parade of boats.
San Angelo police Sgt. Korby Kennedy was killed Thursday night. Two women in the SUV were hurt.
Authorities say the SUV pulled out of a parking lot and hit a motorcycle ridden by Kennedy, who was a San Angelo police officer for nearly 20 years.
Kennedy was part of an escort from Lake Nasworthy to a restaurant for boats participating in this weekend's Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat Races.
Mourners planned a candlelight ceremony for tonight in San Angelo.
