Family of Hit-and-Run Victim Waits for Answers

After four months, police exhaust leads

It has been 119 days since Julie Buford, 48, was hit and killed while crossing Collins Street in Arlington.

Her husband, Kevin Buford, grieves "just one day at a time." Each one of those days is a reminder of all he has lost.

"I can't even go to restaurants and places I've been to because she has always been there with me," said Buford.

Buford is at a loss for answers, as is the Arlington Police Department, which is still searching for the driver who hit and killed his wife.

"I went down and identified the body and I saw the fear in her face when she saw the car knowing she couldn't do anything about it and the car didn't stop," said Buford.

Since September, police have been searching for a truck they believe to be involved in the hit-and-run, a 2000 to 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

But since September there have been no new leads.

"I'm thinking a lot of people don't care or don't want to get involved, afraid they might get in trouble if they did come forward," said Buford.

Family members remain convinced that someone knows or saw something that could help the police investigation.

"On a busy street like Collins someone had to have seen something, even if they didn't know what they had seen," said Cassie Redinger, Julie Buford’s sister-in-law.

"It's very frustrating for something like this to happen and then nobody wants to say anything," added Redinger.

While they wait, they're reminded, everywhere they look, of what's missing.

"With Thanksgiving having just passed and we took a family photo and that's the first photo we've taken without her," said Redinger. "Seeing her missing was hard."
