Family Mourns Eric Duncan at Memorial Service

Non-profit helps fiancee move into a new home

More than a month after Dallas Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan passed away in October, a memorial service in Dallas celebrated his life on Saturday night.

The private service was held at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, where Duncan’s fiancée Louise Troh is a member.

“This is the thing that should have happened weeks ago, but couldn’t,” said associate pastor Mark Wingfield. “This is the first time for Louise to be able to have a service to remember Eric.”

Wingfield says the service is a “step in closure” but just part the family’s process.

He revealed that after weeks of finding it difficult to secure a new lease for Troh, her family finally moved into a new condominium on Thursday.

The home was fully furnished by nonprofit Dwell with Dignity, after nearly all of their personal possessions were destroyed to contain the spread of Ebola.

The memorial service brought together church members with the Troh family, as well as the Liberian community.

“This is a Liberian person, but also a person who has been through a lot. To not be here, it would not serve her right,” said Stanley Gaye, president of the Liberian Community Association in DFW.

“Whatever we can do, we will still do – because it is a long road, because life has changed.”
