Leo succumbs to cancer

The Fort Worth Police Department lost one of its own Monday.

Leo, a German shepherd with but nine months on the force, passed away after being diagnosed with inoperable tumors.

The tumors caused a gastrointestinal blockage from which Leo could not recover despite what the department described as a "hard-fought battle."

A statement issued by the department read, in part, "Leo was a great asset to our department. He loved the job and he loved his handler. We are deeply saddened and our hearts go out to Officer Roberts and our K-9 Unit."

Yet grieve not for Leo, good citizens of Cowtown. All dogs go to heaven.

Cats...? We're still not so sure about cats.

A moment of silence, please, for Leo.
