FW Cop Terminated Over “Excessive Force”

Fort Worth police fired an officer Wednesday for alleged excessive force after a March pursuit.

The department said Officer W.A. Featherstone rushed up and knocked a woman to ground after the chase just before 4 a.m. on March 14.

"We have the greatest police officers in the country, however, as I've said many times before, if any employee engages in physically abusive conduct towards our citizens, we will find them, and I will fire them," Chief Jeffrey Halstead said in a statement.

Officers chased the woman, who was wanted on felony warrants, for 22 miles before pulling her over in the 800 block of West Berry Street. The woman had her hands in the air when Featherstone rushed her, police said.

But Featherstone was not authorized to be at the scene, police said.

Featherstone, 29, had been with the department for almost two years.
