Explosion Rocks Wise County

At least two people are injured after an explosion in Wise County.

Decatur police dispatch tells NBCDFW.com, one tank at a natural gas well exploded and another tank caught fire at around 11:30 Friday morning.

The tanks are designed to hold a petroleum by-product that is created when crews pump the natural gas out, according to Wise County Fire Marshall Mark Dodd.

The well is located on the south side of town, just off FM-51 on Havlik Road.

The workers who were injured were welding, and suffered first degree burns, much like a sunburn.

One went to a local hospital, the other victim was taken to Parkland by medical helicopter after suffering some breathing issues.

Fire and smoke could be seen from several miles away. Fire and rescue crews managed to get the fire under control using foam in less than two hours.
